Bought some seeds off ebay last fall and planted them this past spring and now have some of the BIGGEST sunflower plants ive ever had whent i bought them they showed BIG blooming nice looking flowers but were suppose to be overall small plants 2-3 foot range
well one of my plants measured this afternoon is now 13.7 Ft tall with a thick stalk ( bark on the bottom foot part of plant) with a hudge 1 foot diameter flower which just opened up on wed of this past week but looking in the inside it basically looks like a normal flower will this plant produce seeds? ( I HOPE SO BECAUSE ID LIKE TO SAVE A FEW FOR NEXT YEAR) out of the 12 i planted all are above 8 feet high and one is 13.7 and they were suppose to be all under 3 foot high
just curious if all specices produce seeds or not?
thanks DaveM

They should be ok unless larva got into them. When they start bending over you can pull a seed on the outside and break it open to see if it has a nut inside it. If it does then cover it with a screen or pantyhose or you won't have anything left from the birds.

With sunflowers cross pollination is an issue. Next year you may end up with plants with multiheads or 2-3 feet tall. It never hurts to replant them again, but you never know what your going to end up with. Which makes it interesting.
