Pumpkin Doug

Ypsilanti Michigan

I sold my pumpkins to habbs resterant, and side track bar. I made some good cash from them, but now when I look in the patch, I feel kinda sad now that they are gone, and I can't leave them on the truck forever, but I was promised the seeds in return. How do you deal with a patch thats empty when your so used to seeing pumpkins in it? This is my first time growing, and it's been hard dealing with this empty patch, it's not the same anymore. Sorry this sounds kind of stuppid.

Does it matter what kind of leaves I use? What about grass clippings? Could I use composted humus and manure from lows, because thats all I can find at this time. (MCPUMPKIN)..... They almost ripped my shirt tail off to get those pumpkins, because very few big growers live in Michigan, even thou Im new at this. I have" 2 dogs,cat,4 birds,a frog,a wife, and two kids driving me nuts! Ha! Ha! No turtles.

I would use leaves that rotting fast also it should be leaves that the earthworm want to eat. I think also all composted matter are welcome. But if you use to much of that stuff you should control that pH in early spring.

I understand you very well Doug. Half of my patch only has old leaves now, with two big holes, where my two biggest pumpkins used to be. Melancholy come to my mind when I am close to the fence looking inside. At least I have two more growing in the other end of the patch. Now I am glad about have pollinated them in different dates.
I think I am going to plough the North half of the pacth (no fruits there any more) very soon, tilling in leaves and secondaries, after remove the stump and main vine of the 1036 and the 795. So, I will be doing something there and will be able to terminate the big number of weeds as well.
