Last year I planted some Hiacenths bulbs, mixed some bone meal with them. when it was time for them to come up, they didn't bloom, and they were about two inches in hight, and the folige turned yellow and died. Don't get me wrong, they were nice size bulbs when I planted them. Can anyone help me fix this? I found some more and am thinking about trying again. Is this problem the result of bugs or somthing?

the cold winter last year made lots of bulbs real crappy this spring. mine and lots of gardeners' that i know. that could have been it. lots of my tulips and crocuses just sent up a few scraggly leaves with tiny flowers, if any.
also, did you store the bulbs in the fridge at any point? chemicals that fruit such as apples give off can make bulbs not produce flowers.

It was real cold. Rabbits ate the tops of my crocuses, hardly even bloomed. Tulips did fairly well, but my daffadills were a flop, that is the ones I planted the fall before.

I don't grow them but I sure sell a lot of them.
Make sure they weren't planted to deep. Dig the hole a *LOT* deeper than you have to for drainage. If the soil is heavy, add gravel & stuff to the bottom of the hole before planting the bulb. Plant Hyacinth well in advance of the frozen ground. Daff's I've planted through semi frozen ground without issue, but Hyacinth isn't that forgiving. Mulch a bit if you must.
Make sure to wash well after handling Hyacinth bulbs. The growers dust them with fungicide.
