Hi everyone ! My name is Randy, I have been tring to grow pumpkins for the last 2 years and this year I finaly got some to grow. Thanks to ths web site. The info was greate. I used regular jack-o-lantern seeds and got 2 (75 lb) pumpkins this year. Now my wife and I are getting ready for next year. My garden is 20'x 50'. I have added grass clippings from all summer and now adding 5 yards of horse manure. I have 8x8 houses already made for the plants, underground iragation, and above ground water sprinkler system. Is there anything else I need ? Oh how do I gt some giant seeds? I can be reached by e-mail @ (randytcat@webtv.net)

Ten more yards of horse manure and all the leaves you can till in this fall. Twenty pounds of corn meal, a quart of molasses (cattle grade), twenty pounds of blood meal and a couple pounds of winter rye seed for a cover crop.
....When the tilling looks half decent take a sample and get a soil test. Come here for help adjusting your PH to 6.8 - 7.0.
....There will be a ton of seed available including mine by sometime in November. Ask later. You will have no problem getting free seed for the cost of the handle.

The pumpkins are my babies but they don´t need milk. I give them every day a pint of wodka and a lot of lovely words.

I heard about that one too....
Was doing some research on blossom end rot on tomatoes & common causes stated a lack of calcium.
Suggestions were to 1) add egg shells to the prepared soil or 2) water with a powdered milk solution.
I did not attempt either suggestion.

I hope Kilr doesn't see the milk post!...LOL..Hey Ceis throw all my egg shells in...waiting for that easter brunch at the family restaurant to get more...also compost all the coffee grinds I pick up 3 times a week from the local coffee shop add a handful of lime to each pickup...best worm spot in the heap..

Check on that Chuck. All of my egg shells, & coffee grinds (and filter too) go stright into the compost pile. J
I was thinking about saving a pile of broken up egg shells and making a "ring" around next years planting pits.
Probably best to let the compost pile do it's thing.
AXC has a new post in his diary about milk use...
