I think that is the idea of the S curve, to keep that from happening.

yes I know but it just started breaking itself off. It has been growing toward the vine and I was hoping it spread itself out. the break is across the stem so its not good ever try silicone to seal this up

You need to provide a little slack by cutting a few tap roots and putting on 1 or 2 turn buckles in the right areas to hold the slack position .
Moving the pumpkin to assist would not be a good idea as it might make that unwanted sound where the stem & vine connect . Whatever adjustments you make do it later in the day when it's warm . GOOD LUCK !

You will need to cut nodes as far back as you have to to relieve pressure or loosen the vine. Then I would wedge some foam inbetween the vine and pumpkin if I understand what's going on. At this stage, you don't want to lose the pumpkin to something like that.

And I meant cut roots at nodes - just like the guy above me posted

best ideas yet, get a seasoned grower to look at it and help you. If you are posting on here for help a picture will help us help you.
No, silicon will not stop it.
you have to get some slack in the vine and support the weight of the vine so it is not pulling on the stem. you may be able to move the pumpkin or may have to cut the vine after it passes the pumpkin to save the stem. Take BillF up on his offer and get him to stop by, sooner than later.
Good Luck
