This year I leave the tendrils on the vines and I bury them as I bury their leaf nodes. So far, my impression is that this helps to stabilize the vine in its position. Some things, however, need to be considered when burying leaf nodes with tendrils: - Before you bury the leaf node, wait until the adjacent internodes (= the part of the vine between two leaf nodes) are grown to their final length (the buried tendril will cause some troubles to a vine section which still wants to stretch significantly). - Some tendrils seem to work like feet and legs...the vine doesn´t want to lay down. You need to dig a little hole where the tendril is in order to make the vine lay down without forcing it down, just by its own weight (do that on a hot afternoon for good flexibility of the vines) and then bury the leaf node. - When leaving tendrils on the leaf nodes, check them every couple of days (as long as they aren´t buried) that they don´t catch each other, because that would make the secondaries grow towards each other (out of their perfect alignment in your pumpkin plant´s growth pattern), which would then cause additional (unnecessary) overlap of leaves.

The tendrils don´t produce roots. If you need to move the vine with some rooted leaf nodes, carefully remove the dirt around the tap root and bury it in its new location.
