Hi, I have a question about tendrils.
I looked at my AG plant today and noticed that I have a tendril (must have grown over night)
My plant is only about 2 feet long and 1 foot wide and I'm trying to figure out where the vine starts. I know it will be obvious once it gets bigger, but I'd like to know where it starts when the plant is young.
I figured that if a tendril only comes off vines ...then I have a better idea ....so my question is ...do tendrils only grow off vines on a AG plant?
Thanks joe

The tendril will develop at the base of each leaf along with a bud that will form a secondary vine. First tendril is usually at the base of the fourth leaf.A normal plant will have a growth tip with new leaves forming one at a time. The vine will develop from that growth tip as the developing leaves get large enough to shade that growth tip.Youll see it better as the plant develops 6/7/8 true leaves

And on a side note...I started cutting the tendrils right off last year, at least the ones that were holding the vine off the ground...much easier to position and bury the vines w/out them..

Why wouldn't you bury the tendril with the vine? I heard that the tendrils might tell the plant it's time to take off because it's anchored it self to something. And if you cut tendrils could it slow the plant? your removing it's natural anchor point. Sorry if this is high jacking the thread but it is about tendrils.

Mike, I always cut my Tendrils cause I find they wrap other vines and leave if I cannot get to them on time. My plants still grow well over a foot a day in all directions once rooted and going aka late May and June.

Thanks everybody!
I noticed more tendrils today. I also counted 12 true leaves. the vine is getting really thick as well.
I'm really looking closely at my AG plant so I can observe everything that happens. It's truly a huge learning curve for me.
