Both plants I still have going seem to get UV burn on new leaves very easily. 80+ degrees and sun all day and I get burn on 50-75% of my new growth. I have been shadding the new growth on the main and have limited the burn on it for the most part. Don't have the funds or spare time(8 and 4 yr old kids) to shade every secondary as they grow. Is this problem genetic or something I may have done early on to cause them to be more susceptible to burn. Plant still growing almost a foot a day even with my burnt leaves but getting aggravating every day finding more burnt leaves as they grow. Any and all input greatly appreciated!!! Still learning as this is my first season but already have tons of changes in store for next year(If I can talk the wife into my financial investments!!!) Also hats off to you guys that grow multiple plants a year. I have 2 and it is all I can do with a growing family to keep up with them. I have been getting up on my weekends at daylight so I can try to get my pumpkin work done while the family is still in bed!!! Speaking of which its after 10 so bed time got to get early to work on patch for Father's Day!!!!

bma try staking the tips up off the ground at least 6 inches, 2 stakes holding it up and 2 stakes back a little farther to stake the vine down. I will try and post a pic on my diary later today. I have had very little burn on the tips so far this year doing it this way..

I'm having similar issues...my plan is to shade what I can with the lawn chairs I have and stay away from the small leaves with the sprayer...we've been dry here in the northeast... Another few days and we should be ok...check out countryboy's(Cecils) diary... Lovin that shade cloth set-up...good luck bma...the hard work is worth it..

I pick up patio chairs or small plastic tables that people are throwing away and cover vine tips with them. It takes 5-10 minutes every few days to move them.

Thanks guys got all the tips staked up yesterday and seemed to work. Hottest day of the year so far mid 90's. Still noticed a little burning but I think they may have been burnt from the previous day. I'm going to start my garbage picking for next year seems like a good place to find growing supplies!!!

i try to bury vines every day. or two. the sooner you get the new leave covered the sooner they will root. also don't worry to much about the burn. just let them grow and enjoy the process. grow-4-fun. live-4-family:)
