New growers... I remeber what it was like my first year on this site, watching all these monster pumpkins being grown while my plant was only 12'long....I managed to raise one to 601lbs by weighoff time...and she was a beauty....there's still enough time to need a tractor to lift one out of the patch !!....keep up the work...if you have problems...ask questions..(or type stupid question in the site search box...I'm sure my name will pop up a bunch.)...don't worry about the other growers....well....qtip I would worry about...I never woulda thought it, but he's doin it right...

Well said Porkchop. This being my first year I've had a lot of discouragement. Some I can control some not. But I won't give up. The one thing that surprised me the most, was the amount of work involved. I greatly appreciate all the help you, Q Tip, and others on this site. This site has a wealth of information. Many of my questions get answered by reading the posts. If I have a question I know someone will give me an answer. Come the end of the season whether or not I get one to the scales I'm gonna say What A Ride, and do it again next year.

My thanks to everyone on this site you have all taught me a lot. I hope everyone grows a personal best. I know I will, I already have, that's one of the advantages of being a rookie. Each day that goes by I have a personal best.

Well said Hobbit " What a ride"!!! I feel like I'm on a roller coaster everyday. I too would like to thank everyone on this site that answers our questions, even the dumb ones Porkchop. Just like Hobbit, didn't truly realize the amount of time and work envolved in growing. My respect goes out to you guys and ladies that maintain 5-6 + plants. Already got tons of changes for next year and haven't even completed this season yet. Keeping my fingers crossed every day and no matter what happens from here on out I will definitely be back for more punishment next year!!!! My wife and kids are really starting to get excited. Even the mail lady is asking my wife every time she catchers her outside how the pumpkins are doing. Got to get to bed, I have to get up at 4 so I can tuck my babies in before work. Supposed to be a scorcher tomorrow.

I think we all remember our first seasons...it is those seasons that makes you a giant pumpkin grower, or one that makes you throw in the towel and go back to whatever life you had prior.
