Hi, been a while since i posted here. This might be a silly basic question, but is there an ideal time of year to actually get the plants into the ground. I was thinking maybe on the longest day of the year ( but that might be leaving things a tad late) Or something like plant out the day after you get a full moon ( yes i know that sounds silly, but just never know)
Just thought there might be a best time to aim for getting them out of the pots and into the ground. Cheers. Peter.

Many things to be taken into consideration here. Important is that you are aiming at a pollination while the days are long, hence, pollination around mid December or Christmas should be good in your case, but you also need a strong plant (maybe 250-300 sqft) at the time of pollination. Also, the plant should be young, strong, highly productive, and it doesn´t make sense to have an early seedling sit in cold soil for many weeks. Thus, I would say that 2 or maybe 2.5 months for plant development before pollination should be fine, like seed starting in the 1st week of October. The seedling should be transplanted as soon as you can identify the orientation of the first true leaf, and the soil should be warm enough.

GPC needs to adjust to world wide growing. The right time of the year to grow varies depending on what part of the world you live in. For pumpkin weighoffs, it isnt so important. For tomatoes...anytime of the year there could be someone that is growing the biggest.

Cheers, Just thought there might of been something to with planting on a particular moon phase or something. Going to give soil warming cables a go this year, so hopping that might help them along a tad.
