I have read about both methods by great growers so I was curious about the pros and cons of burying the whole vine vs burying leaf nodes only? Thanks

Depends on the humidity level of your area. Here in Colorado we have low humidty. We can bury the vine totally and not have it rot...at least I never had it rot. Other areas may only want to bury at the leaf node. We also do it here to help with wind damage, wind that rips the vines from the tap roots gusts.... hope this helps.

They will send down some roots even if you don't bury the vines at all. To get a really big one its very important to have a lot of healthy roots but how you get those is up to you. Try to find out if burying is a useful defense against the squash vine borer for growers in your area.

I run all of my vines in a trench and then bury most of the vine as things grow it gets washed off but I also get top and bottom rooting this way helps hold plants down so they don't roll up in heavy winds also I layout my trenches so the plant can grow down the trench and the bottom roots come fast also water is allowed deeper in soil closer to the root zone

Be careful if you have SVBS. They will attack vines that are not covered.

Hi Glenomkins/Christopher24 yes I have identified a couple vine borers in the garden this year. Had never really heard of them before probably been attacking my zucchini for years so likely well established.

I grew a couple generic AG's this year and was spraying them off and on with Neem Oil so may have slowed them down a lot this year. I will check the vines carefully when I pull them up soon and see if I can find larva anywhere or likely damage.

Hi Big City Grower I was considering a trench of sorts and let the vine grow down it. I thought that would root and anchor them well thanks for verification of that. I will be growing three plants I think so may try different ways for each of them this year to see what works best for me here. Not have all my eggs in one basket and use a little of all the advice so far thanks.

Thx for the invite Wayne but that time is very busy for me this year so won't be doing many events or adventures for awhile. Will be clearing some of the calendar for next year though :)
