One of my biggest problems is leaf burn when the heat starts to climb. Does anyone have experience/advice with using like a 30% shade cloth over the bulk of the entire patch? Don't have the time to take it on/off during the season so i'd want to just put it up once towards the start of the season. Thanks John

Hay John, we get a lot of scorching sun here too, found it is easier, cheeer and less problematic to cover young vine tips and intermittantly overhead water to minimize leaf burn. We found that super hot days usually come with wind that plays hell with shade cloth.

Email Spencer Glasgow in Alabama, He has 40% shade cloth set up over entire patch for kins, He has his on a sliding cable system. That could be good for you as you won't need it early in the season

Put on high tension cables and slide on shade clips attached to cable and the wire id consider 22% in NJ . But 30% will be about the same... slide over first getting super hot day and can just leave on.... ideal world it slides on around 11pm everyday
