Subject: How to Cut Around Final Pumpkin

I'm a new grower. I'm at the point where I just put board under my chosen pumpkin. I see everyone's photos that they take off the leaf near the main pumpkin - 1,) Any tips on what I should take off at this point 2) do you put any chemicals on the open leaf area that was removed near the main vine? Not sure what my next step is at this point.

try to cut away enough of the leaf stalk so it doesn't collect and hold water, you can dust the cut area lightly with sulfur powder
