My pumpkin leaves/stems are standing very stretched or tall and the leaves look cupped upward to the sun. I've never seen this before and it happened overnight. The leaves are usually fanned out real big but now are standing real tall and leaves are cupped upward. What does this mean? Thank you!!

Usually means They’re “praying” for magnesium...but I dunno what has been done..big change one day to the next could mean something different...plant pics could help...

This happens quite often for me. Usually a very cool night with abundant rain just before. Seems like they are searching for sunshine to go with the overabundance of water and lack of warmth. Just what I've seen with mine. I live in the Adirondack Mts where it gets cool at night.

If they are cupping upward like this picture in Quinn's , I do not think there is much to worry about. Look through the diaries and you will see that a lot. I always thought that it was a good sign.

I have seen a lot of photos of sickly leaves that point upward

The smaller rounded leaves are the only ones I remember seeing cupped upward

Mine cup up when when its dry. I take it as a prayer for rain but I think it really relates to high calcium and maybe low ferts. Seems like if some of the nitrate or other ferts are high then they just wilt. I dont doubt that some magnesium would 'calm them down'... Very possibly I dont know the truth take it as an opinion. It might be wrong.

Here is a posting from a few years ago. I overhead water, and noticed that the leaves will cup upwards in order to collect and direct the water downwards to the stem and to the ground/roots where the water is needed.

A lot of those growers don’t post much anymore or even use bigpumpkins, so the old posts are very useful at times when you need an answer.
