When exactly should a GIANT PUMKIN seed be planted?
How much room do you actually need?
Just for one pumpkin... What 300 sq. feet or something
If you're just doing it for fun... not for (competition)

Does it need to be any special kind of land, like flat, tilled, softned, and absent of all rocks?
And if so do you only have to prepare the soil this way where you start the pumpkin?
I mean, do the outer areas have to be tilled as well, or do you just figure once the roots get that far, the pumpkin can grow on its own, and doesn't really need soft soil?

And how do you recommend keeping deer away, and keeping gophers from eating the roots?
I live out on some property so to grow a GIANT PUMPKIN, this would probably be the main concern.
Is a fence neccessary?

For the last question yes a fence is *most absolutely necessary* if the deer have been a problem before. For everything else stick around here and you'll be amaized at how much you can learn. And also buy the book "How To Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins Two" by Don Langevin. His site is www.giantpumpkin.com I think. The first book is a little outdated and the third is really a bit complex for a person just starting. Good luck! Alex Noel.
