First time grower. I started these pumpkins late as I am working with a small 150 sq ft area.

I set them out in a mix of sun and shade for 2 days which appears to have damaged the first leaves. From what I was able to research, this appears to be ozone? I am also concerned about the shriveling along the edge.

Am I screwed if I continue with these? Am I better of using a backup from a smaller pot or starting over fresh?

I'm not looking to set any records, but hope to have a decent sized pumpkin by season end.

Plenty of time to start fresh as a new grower...kiss your 2000lb dreams goodbye but you have time for a giant...see what these do while you soak and start a few new ones...also check around...if your willing to drive I’m sure you could find extra plants from another grower...good luck!!

I normally don’t look at photos on other sites but I checked just yours out...yer fine...just a little sunburn...yer doing good...time to go in the ground with protection...(hoophouse...few bales of straw and a window...yadda yadda yadda...whatever it takes)

thanks goodness for the second Porkchop post, as it'd have been weeks before reaching the same level of development with new seeds! i NEVER have planted out any plant without putting a clothesbasket over it for SUN and CRITTER and WIND protection - i'm gonna look soon to see if anyone does anything other than just putting them out in the sun and then wondering why they have 'leaf burn' and 'fertilizer' burn - none here. i got sunburn myself a week ago on my shiny melon and wondered 'Why?' as it set in and started to bother me - how did i get sunbu...oh, yeah, all that weed-killing without a baseball cap on...whooaahh!

seems likely that PLANTS also develop a tolerance for sun and wind and...well, the 'hardening off' topics?;

PS --- clothesbasket with holes small enough to prevent critterage, 2 if you can for strength and can be offset to adjust light input and wind throughput and can set for critter size limitation, with a small piece of plywood on top and about a 10-pound rock as well to hold it all in place - NO problems...until it outgrows that arrangement, lol---eg

Do not start over fresh, the first leaf will be irrelevant soon. Get them in the ground and you'll have to wait a bit for transplant shock. It should kick in fast with the nice temps though compared to early May. Also, most of the time, the plants vine out opposite of the first true leaf so plant accordingly.

I was picturing a little fried seedling...that being said it is possible to start now and catch up to that one. Agreed not possible with everyone.
