I've been burying my main vine and secondaries at the node. I just read info from another grower that you should NOT bury the main vine.... comments from experienced growers appreciated ...I'm in Northern California and it gets in the 100's - will I rot the main ?

I think these guys qualify as pretty good growers. I have seen (can't find) some of the growers wash the dirt off once the roots have gone into the main soil and do not cover the end of the small side vine tip if you do. I guess the secret is to not get the main vine sitting in very wet soil because it increases your chance of rot or diseases. Some people will say do and others will say not

This only my 3rd year trying to grow AG. In 2018, a drier season, I buried the main and all sides, only leaf stalks and flowers sticking out. I had not rot problems. In 2019, a really wet season, I did the same thing, and got rot so bad that I lost my entire plant. This year I'm putting only a smaller flower pot full of soil only at the nodes. I will wash off the dirt after a couple weeks if rain doesn't do the job for me.

This year I am adding some indol 3 rooting powder on top of each node where the top root spot shows. Hoping this increases top rooting without so much soil on top.

Thank you everyone. After reading the above information. I will continue adding mycorrhizae at each node and I've been using a shovel to cover nodes with my amended soil. It usually comes off on its own during the season. I do try to keep it moist for the first couple of weeks until the roots show up. I don't' trench the vine, just add soil on top at the nodes. Hopefully no rot. I think I'll uncover one and check on the stem area. I have been a little heavy handed with how much dirt I've been adding this year .. may change to half a shovel of soil. Kind Regards - Sandra

My plants look healthy thanks to Cecil Weston -(Cecil calculated the soil worksheet for me- I couldn't get it to balance even after watching his tutorial :)), Also a Big thanks to Mr. Geddes & Mr. Urena for gifting me a few seeds this year. Those seeds ending up germinating and proving to be my top picks.

Will help with rooting, and as long as there is not a lot of water pooling on the vines, there shouldnt be a problem.
