In my infinite wisdom vault it says to not worry about it unless it were to get 1/4 of an inch further into the meat of the pumpkin (nice color, right off, by the weigh, and nice arrangement/root node that'll never need use but looks anxious/good padding, S-curve, etc.) and even then, if that is the best one to come along (?), nothing can be done and i wouldn't even do what i'll SAY i would do and these 2 would only be for BEFORE it DID progress to see if it helped, which is to intricately drizzle the split with Hydrogen Peroxide 3% ONCE and leave it to DRY, OR use ONE tablespoon of Clorox to one gallon of H2O, same deal, drizzle a little onto it and then leave it be. best thing, per others' suggestions, might be neither of those but later you'll think of them in other 'wound' scenarios, just like a cut on your finger - you would not leave it be because of the consequences of doing nothing...but, per others' suggestions, evaluate those and decide, of course(!).
so, do nothing and it'd be no problem without progression; i HAVE done the Clorox 1 tbsp/gal. as a spray for my stem and/or blossom ends for peace of mind in the past and it has not ever been a bad thing;---eg

I did spray it with a hydrogen peroxide solution and left the neck exposed to the sun but covered the pumpkin.

okay, not sure what to say about any need to cover a pumpkin that small unless it is with a structure you don't have to make a replacement for every week, lol, but i guess earlier is better, which is my weakest point, lol---if you have a covering (cloth, sheet, burlap bag or anything) on the pumpkin i don't think i would personally have anything ON the pumpkin at this point. if you mixed the H2O2 with water and it was already 3%, no need to go weaker than 3%, as it is the same as you'd use on the finger cut example. well, good luck with it and WOWWW!!!...a new use for 'cow pies'! are those roots coming up from the fibrous root system or are they from the nodes---really magnificent rooting, nonetheless---eg

The big root that comes out the top of the node runs horizontally a couple inches or more before going down into the soil. The small roots are the secondary roots from that horizontal main root. I know the rooting hormone helps get things going then the Azos and myco takes over.
