I noticed that most growers use "blue" tarps for their shelters? I have access to a "LARGE" supply of "FREE" heavy duty white plastic used to cover greenhouses in the winter. Any good reason not to use?? It is fairly opaque! Doubled over it's even darker? Thanks!

free is good. you are going to get some opinions about using different colors, but i believe "free" out weighs them all. the whole point is to keep them dry and sheltered from the sun.

If the plastic is thick enought, the sun wont go through as bad

White is fine. Free is great. Go for it. Alex.

Orange was all the rage a couple years ago. Walmart sold them. None in stock last year around here. Blue is the most commonly stocked so it is commonly used. Some folks say that color matters. I don't know one way or the other.

For sure the heat from dark colored tarps can be an issue so these ought to be kept high enough above the fruit to insure proper disipation & air circulation.

Orange looks good in the patch. Free looks even better.
