Subject:  Do you have to transplant seedlings?

I have always read to transplant giant pumpkin seedlings from indoors to out doors.Can't you just put them in the ground under there cold frames.Because its hot in spring where i live.What shoud i do.from Edward.

i beleive in direct planting as there is no shock from indoor to outdoor. as well no matter what you start your pumpkin in, there is always some sort of root bunching or damage although some have made it an art form i beleive in direct planting if you can get the right soil and air temp.

Edward, you certainly can direct plant without any problems. the one thing i might consider thinking about is if you have patch limitations, you're going to want to know which way your main vine is going to run. Usually it's opposite the first true leaf. if you're planning on planting at the edge of your patch, and the main vine ends up running in the opposite direction of your patch, its going to be a pain in the butt to train properly. However, if you're planting in the middle of your patch, and it doesnt matter which way the main runs, then you can plant directly without any worries, well outside of the normal ones anyway! :)
