The only stupid question is the one not asked. We're all here to learn from eachother. Some may know it all, or at least think they do....but the majority of us are just here to learn. I think asking what kind of fertilizer is best for the AG's is a perfectly valid question.
I agree with southern, the best fertilizer is what you can get for free. Search around in your area and you'll be surprised what you can find. Horse manure, cow manure, yard compost, coffee grounds, etc. are all great amendements.

I take Matfox as pitching his natural mouth born poop..Ketch some of that fer the patch and you will be a winner. As a straight answer....I like the free stuff and I like to mix it but Southern's free is always best.
In the spring it should be a couple years old. When ole it may be used a couple of inches deep...say up to four to six. That's a bunch. That is what a lot of us put on mixed between spring and fall. In the fall do it early enough to get a cover crop of rye grass planted. That adds what we call Green Manure. It may be thought of as equal to a load of manure. If you are Dutch just imagine how much my hands and arms are showing just how to do this. :)

Have a soil test done. Then you'll know what you really need and what you don't need any more of.

I prefer fish guts and composted cow manure with a touch of Eurasion Watermilfoil.
For information on what to feed your giant pumpkin plant and when, I suggest reading Don Langevin's book "How to grow world class giant pumpkins II" Chapter 7.

I'm with Ron on the soil test. The "right" answer is only what's "right" for your soil. As for brand names, don't get too hung up on that. Pumpkins can't read. Post your soil test results & we'll interpret.
And do get all the 2-3 year old manure you can find. Cheap's good. Free's better.

I am new here, and not pleased with the atmosphere that is being generated by matfox.
I hope this is just a come and go thing. I have met some really nice people here.

matfox you must have a really small uhh "pumpkin" I recall you asking a ton of questions on this site. Tennessee don't worry about some folks rude comments. I used to cruise around old farm houses and folks would allways be more than glad to have me clean out their barns and coops, sometimes they even paid me, or gave me beer/lunch. The only trouble is the manure was useually to fresh to use right away so into the compost pile it went.

I did not start a fight, but you guys did with you foul mouths. I was being funny and correct at same time elephant manure is high in all nutrients. elephat manure is so strong it can be used unless it has been composted a year it still has be cut with soil or it will burn plants. Mr.D&ME i am sure you will hear from john d about you banning soon for your use foul language. gads you will here from john d as well.
