Prune tertiaries when ever you see them. Don't let them grow at all. Not sure about the cornmeal. Alex.

I THINK that I read that the tertiaries should be cut off about two feet from the secondary vine and then buried.

prune them as soon as posible. I do it every day during Jun and July. I will cut tendrils as well.

Im gonna throw in a small wrench here...as a point to consider. If you are growing in typical x-mas tree fashion, then yes, you would trim all tertiaries. Consider this tho- when you set a fruit anywhere on your vine, it essentially ends up blocking off a certain chunk of the allotted growing space. If you draw two imaginary perpendicular lines from the main vine to the edge of the patch where the fruit is growing, you can visualize the empty space im talking about. If you wanted to maximize the growing area with foliage, then you could leave a couple tertiaries on the secondaries that flank the fruit. Make sense?

No tertiaries.....One has to get in there on hands and knees to do to much work.

Yep, you need a corridor to get to the monster, to cover an extra space on that area, you can move a little the secondaries of the edges in order to close a little.
