Today I fell (sat, actually) onto one of my plants. My STAR. Lots of crunching. Lots of tears. I cleared away what looked to be unsalvageable and splinted/tied up other stuff that looked like it might live. Any advice on how to proceed re: stuff like feeding it or not, extra water or not, just cut the broken stuff or splint, etc. is super appreciated!

backstory on how I came to sit on my plant because I'm sure everyone wants to know: my husband is a sunflower guy and has planted the entire driveway strip with sunflowers. Some of my pumpkins are asserting themselves in that area so I ventured in to "make nice." As I was trying to remove the pumpkin tendrils from a sunflower stalk, I lost my balance when I stood up and sat down on her.

Wow I hear you!
Ive nearly lost my balance many times trying to reach to some hard-to-get spot.
These plants can heal surprisingly well. You can stake the leaves where you want them, or just let them recover on their own.
The vine will heal. If things are wilting... maybe some shade would help but I doubt extra water would help.

I often leave (lol) leaves in place that look disheveled from even not my damaging of them so that slugs and cucumber beetles that may occur naturally go after THEM rather than nice, new growth in the meantime; Later, the leaves, and their stowaways, can be cut free and tossed a safe distance away, out of sight and mind.

I usually give the plant some time after a catastrophe. In a few days you will see what bounces back and what needs to be cut off. Plus you will be in a better state of mind to make the decisions. Daconil never hurts. Spray it on the wounds and it will help everything heal up and dry out.

y'all are making me laugh :) thank you! Thank you for the words of wisdom and the humor! she looks like she's bouncing back. Only lost a couple of mondo leaves, and nothing else is wilting today. fingers crossed she keeps thriving!

Ohh welcome to my world. I have Vertigo...So things that are up are sometimes down....I do a tuck and roll at least once a year. Hopefully I just got it out of the way. They will come back if not crushed and have vascular damage.
