Can I grow other types of pumpkins in the front yard while growing AGs in the back? Should I worry about cross pollination with smaller varieties? If I pollinate my AG plants & keep track of which flowers I do will this be enough? I can always buy one for the jack-o-lantern @ Halloween. Thanks, Terry

only other varieties of maxima will cross pollenate the pepo will not. If you take good care of your pollenations before the flower opens and after pollenaton there should be no question what pollenated what...Grow Em Big! Chuck

This may be a stupid question... But what do you think we do with our Giants...Make Coffee Tables or Dog Houses out of them?...You grow these things to have the Biggest darn Jack o Lanterns in the county that are Lighted up with 300 Watt Halogen work lights. Not some punny candles..:)

One of those "hippy" strobe lights REALLY livens the old Jacko Up!

I like to sculpt them using clay tools. Along with Wood Lathe Chisels. I have been talking about using a chainsaw for carving but Brigitte will not hold the slop bucket...:)I also understand once a chain and bar are used on the pumpkin the sugars pretty much destroy it.

Shannon's holding the slop bucket, I'll run the chain saw.
Just sticking an entire lantern into the pumpkin lights it up good too.
Terry - Planting both won't screw up the pumpkins that you grow this year. But if you plant the seeds from those pumpkins next year, that's when you will notice the hybrids if any of your plants cross pollinated.

Shannon - make sure you clean and oil that chain B4 you put it away. It makes short work when carving.
