Our garage roof is adjacent the patch & greenhouse. The rainwater is collected in a 275 gallon caged tank as of yesterday. Because I hadn't time to construct an elevated platform, we'll use a pump for this year to get the water out.

I collect all rainwater from my downspouts always.
It seems to produce better results than even fertilizer mixed with spring water.
I have a total of about 10,000 liters rainwater but if it's not covered well then mosquitos come and lay their eggs in it and then you have a big problem.
Best regards!

If you have screen on your windows then it doesn't matter if the containers are left open.

I use a big rubbermaid garbage barrel underneath the rain gutter at the corner of the garage. Sometimes chipmunks or mice get in there and drown, that adds a little nitrogen. :-)

To much work, and too little rain! We just use the well for irrigation.
