i have heard some talk of using ROUND UP in the patch is this common if so how do i use it with out killing my plants

it is common...keep the tip of the sprayer very close to the weeds and dont use it when its really windy

so its not really gonna effect the vines as they grow and root in to the soil?

Roundup leaves no soil residue at all. Once it contacts soil, it's finished. So there will be no impact on future plant growth.
Bit be EXTREMELY careful spraying. It's drift that gets folks in trouble. Even a small amount of drift is terrible.
Use very low pressures. Set adjustable tips to COARSE spray output. Replace fixed nozzles with larger ones. Work low & slow. Work at night with lights when the chance of wind is minimized.

I use red dye in my roundup. It's easier to spot a leaf that was accidentily sprayed and remove it, then to lose an entire plant!
