my plants still have that "fitted bed sheet" thing going on and they look absolutly terrible! except for the 620 boyton which is normal...except the soon to be main vine is sort of flat. Can you grow a pumpkin with a flat vine? what sort of problems will it encounter? And the bedsheet thing doesnt seem to be going away and now there is atleast 6 leaves, all horribly disfigured. are you sure it will grow out?

If you put "flatvine" into the search box, you will get quite a bit of information as it is a topic that comes up often in the general discussion part of the message board. If you are able to post some pictures, others can let you know if it's flat. Sometimes a "flatvine" will self correct with no intervention. Most growers occasionally get a flatvine. Some grown em, some train the first strong secondary vine into the new main vine and terminate the original main vine, and some will "pull" the plant all together. IT kind of depends on your goals. I grew a flatvine last year and got a couple of 200+ pound pumpkins. The vine flatened out to be 18" wide. I found it very interesting to study the plant as it grew. I had another plant for "competitive" purposes that did not flat vine. Others have reportedly grown near 1000 pounders on a flatvine. Good luck and have fun.

The bed sheet leaves should return to normal.
Yes you can grow fruit on flat vines. Like Kayla said, there are a lot of folks dealing with Flatties this year. I saw one that returned to normal already.
Jesse, You haven't sprayed these plants with anything yet I hope? Most early leaf disorders are usually grower induced with all the best intentions.

Another grower may have a more detailed answer for you, but something about the flatvine disrupts the plants ability to draw nutrition/water through the main vine and to the fruit. A flat main vine has much thinner side walls than a "normal" main vine. The biggest pumpkins are able to intake a whole smorgesboord of minerals/nutriants through the main vine (much more than just water). Many growers spend a lot of time getting the soil balance just right so that the pumpkin fruit is well fed as it grows. OK, that's the limit of my knowledge. Keep on growing
