my season has not started off very well. if you wanna get depressed just read my diary. but that is not why i am posting today. check this out.....
this evening i was in the patch doing my daily weeding, etc. you see i don't care that the plants are not doing well, i want to ensure i keep the weeds down, that is one of my goals. at any rate i noticed that one of my plants had grown some. i went over to it and started praising it, telling it how happy i was, proud that it had put on a couple of inches on it's main vine, leafs bigger, etc. then i realized that i was talking out loud. i looked around to see if anyone was around and laughed at myself that for the first time i felt a reason to be proud of my plants.
even in the worst of seasons, hope is always there. may you all feel that feeling this year, and grow a big one.

I wish you the same Owen! The last time I was speaking loud was when my plants crashed down in the greenhouse and I was cursing about the damn critter responsible for that. Since then I´m somehow pretty quiet...and patient...sometimes you simply can´t believe what these plants can take or do within 24 hours. So everyone experiencing a backstroke, it´s not the time to give up. Good luck.

Owen - Your probably not the first nor last grower to talk to their plants - nor do any other crazy stuff for them.
I think Carlos was going to play Brahms for his last year. There are probably many other examples of weird things that have been done- just can't think of those examples right now.
Anyways my point is remember to enjoy the growing season. It is the best time of year -try to enjoy it to it's fullest.
Last year I really got caught up in the obsession of growing and didn't think about enjoying myself. This year is totally different and pretty fun so far.
The only problem that I see is that you are a dedicated GIANT pumpkin grower. This is a common problem, one that we all share with you.
Hang in there and grow'em BIG!

This meeting of the psychotic talking pumpkin growers anonymous is now in session.
"Hi, my name is Brigitte, and I talk to my plants."
Just give it a few days. Stuff always gets better.

It's OK to talk to plants. Just don't let a Flamingo here you.
Your story is one of inspiration Owen. I hope the weather turns soon & your season finishes well. But if the plants don't perform to your expectations, I hope you enjoy the effort all the same.

Its O.K. Unless others catch you doing it...:) If they do just start talking to yourself,,,Like a mental note...LOL believe me they will not understand until they are inflicted with the Pumpkin Virus...
