Subject:  where to cut secondary next to fruit??

I have a fruit set and i want to give it more room. the fruit is set on the primary and a secondary comes out from the same spot. where do i cut it. is it ok to cut it right at the pumpkin/ primary? thanks, jason

Jason, Carefully of course, you can trim the secondary where it intersects with the main vine. Avoid damaging the stem of the new pumpkin or the mainvine. Use a sharp cutting implement that you are confident won't have any "disease" on it... such as from another plant. The hollow center of the secondary vine does not continue to the hollow center of the main vine... they are separate. I personally let these cuts dry naturally and do not treat them with a fungacide; however, I think you will read posts where some growers treat after cutting. I usually find it necessary to cut off a leaf or two at the same location. Happy growing. Kayla

Jason, Here is what I do. This is from last year's journal and there are 4 pictures. I've been on a bit of a hiatus this year and don't even have a journal yet.
