I had a vertical split for awhile that I thought would never close but I looked out there today and it closed. Surprisingly it never got infected considering there has been alot of rainfall in the past month and I never used any fungicides. The plant hasn't been growing very much and I have been using fertilizer(not large amounts of it though) Is the plant just recovering from the split?

It sure sounds like it.
Never under estimate the power of an Atlantic Giant. LOL
