I pollinated 339 little X self 6-23 , the pumpkin is 10 1/4 " in circum. on day 5 its about 18' out. It has a funny radius on the bottom side stem end , but I have another female about 24' out not pollinated yet that looks to be a better shape. I also have 2 pollinated on secondaries. Do I need to remove these in a certain time period? And is this an average size for a 5 day old?

shape is important. anything funny looking at day 5 will be magnified many times when it is bigger. i would suggest pollinating the fruit at 24' and seeing how it grows. typically you would cull when they get to be about basketball size, keeping the ones that seem to have the best shape, position and are growing fastest.

if it's weird shaped and you have another available, cut it. it may not have gotten one lobe pollinated properly.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping you would chime in Kyle. The flower had a funny looking lobe, but I pollinated it any way.I collected some pollen and froze from my 699 Schroeder 803.4 davies x 821 garrell this morning. Would this make a good cross with the 339 or would I be better off to self pollinate again? I pollinated my nc giant with the 339 . the main on the nc broke and it is on a secondary, it is growing fast and the vines are too. Hows the pink tomatoes doing. I am having a great year with tomatoes I picked my first 6-12 . Would I be better off to remove all the fruit on the 339 now before I pollinate the next one or leave them for a while? I have plenty of males . Thanks
