I am a first yearling. I was counting the lobes and thought I had 5 but then someone is counting all the loops so maybe I have 10? Is one lobe each loop or is it the 2 stuck tog. at the base, and what is a good lobe set to keep?

Each lobe does have 2 parts. Therefore a 5 lobed flower might well appear to have 10 if the definition is sharper than the eye. Older eyes like these have to work a little harder to see the definition now too. LOL
