One fruit was set on Friday and is now about baseball sizw. Is early growth slow or will the rate speed up?

Sounds pretty normal.
Speed is variable among AGs when that young & it isn't impossible for the fruit to abort between now & basketball size but everyday closer is a good sign.
I have heard that measurementing fruit that is less than 20 days is a waste of time. I'm starting to agree.
I used to make 10 day measurements only to get mad when half of them stalled or aborted in that time.
The 20 day mark is a better guage of performance when you'd like to see it bigger than 55" with bigger than 60" being real nice & 70"+ is awesome.

Give it time Gourdini... Before you know it you will see it grow every day. Take weekly pictures and you will really notice the growth. When you say your fruit is the size of a dime has it actually bloomed and been pollinated yet? A dime seems kind of small golf ball is normal. Still just give it some time.

I would agree with Tremor on those circumfrences. These are my 20 day circumfrences from best to worst this year. 79", 75", 69", 63", 57", 50", and 45"

I'm at day 14 with a 28" diameter. Mine better get going! Mine is close to perfectly round. I would assume that a round fruit with the same diameter as an oval fruit, would actually be heavier(if the inside density were the same). Or am I just telling myself this to feel better?
Ron, Do you think it's genetics that's playing a large part in your fruit size variability at day 20? Or do you think it's more cultural variables?

there is a flower but im not sure that is has been polluntated, will there be a small ball (yellow) if it has not been pollinated? I know it sounds dumb...also is there time left to still grow a big un?

gourdini,
If the flower hasn't swelled & opened yet, then it isn't pollinated yet. Read some of the diaries for pollinating tips. I slacked off this year during pollination primarily because digital cameras don't like rain any more than Pumpkin flowers do. But if you check my diary, I do have several images from our first pollination attempts this year.
