lost a couple pumpkins in the 200lb range to rot, these pumpkins basically matured almost a month ago. They rotted around the stem. (were still on the vine) I have a couple 400lbers that have just stopped growing. I was really hoping to keep these for halloween display. Am I better off to cut them from the vine and get them someplace cooler or leave them on the vine. First year grower, would really appreciate advice. Thanks

I've heard that they will keep for months if stored in a cool, dry place. Have you been getting a lot of rain? If the pumpkins are rotting from the ground up, maybe putting sand or something underneath would be helpful. I'm no expert, and I'm sure someone with lots more experience will post soon, but that's my 2 cents.

Sorry, "rotted around the stem" means not from the ground up, but I'd still make sure they're off the ground.
