Check out my pumpkin in my diary... it has the same complexion I did when I was 13 years old. Is this from the sun sneaking through the sun shade, or is this thing just rotting? Uggh. Either way, not a pretty sight... Here's the link:

Any suggestions, or eulogies, let me know...

I was checking those out. The lighter orange/yellowish spots are a desirable trait reminiscant of the 801/846 look. But those browning spots could be something "hot" you applied or cause for greater concern. How long have they been there & are they getting worse?

They started developing around August 16-20, and yes, they are getting worse. It's not softer where the spots are, but it IS concerning. It has been cool and wet lately? I wonder if it's cat urine????

Lawman, Ya I have a pumpkin I call toad, with the face only a mother could love! Hee Hee. Why don't you pee on those cats and see how they like it???? I would, but being a woman that would be quite the sight, probably get more in my shoe than on the cat! LOL! Urine is acidic, not good for any plant matter. Ps.. Have you tried Get off my Garden!??? It is a jelly like stuff that lasts a long time, you could put a ring of it around your pumpkin to protect it from those pumpkin wizzzzzers. Doeski

Ya, and they like that stuff. They're cats from hell. Nothing works. I think I have to drive a stake through them or something. Maybe a ring of garlic around the pumpkin would work?

Lawman, have you tried those motion sensor sprinklers? Of course, you'd have to remember to turn them off when YOU were out there. On some dry days you could try what I used to keep my cats off the counter. . . a "SCAT MAT". It gives them a nice little "correction" when they step on it. Again, it would need to be dry and you would need to remember not to step on it. . . ORrrrrr.... you could put a perimeter of shards of glass (just kidding).

Some alley cats are just terrorists. They don´t even bother to get a pretty good electric shock. I would suggest some sort of netting around the fruit. There are crows in my garden picking holes about the caliber of a quarter dollar coin into the lawn - I don´t want to see that on the pumpkins.

The Crows might be Starlings which are after Sod Webworns or Grubs. Bugs are of more interest to the birds than pumpkins at this time.
