DANG GIRLFRIEND !!!! if you are measuring right, and the scales are calibrated right, do you realize just how many people will be hitting you up for seeds ??
i have this chart that lists every single pumpkin grown in 2003 over 700 lbs. the SMALLEST OTT there is, is 309. and that is freakish small. if yours is 278, i am in awe.
pretty cool.

congratulations great job! .....are you sure you're measuring right? according to my chart 278 OTT is 444.1 lbs. If that scale is correct, then you are almost 60% heavy. I've never known the chart to be off by that much. I suppose anything is possible though. id be interested to see how thick it is when you cut it open. Could you post pictures when you do?

I've just seen the pics... all looks a bit strange to me...
I'd say that there is no pumpkin in the pic heavier than 600 or at the most 700lbs.
Look at the fruit under the arm of Kevin Companion.... does a 1040lbs fruit look like that? I think not, it more looks like a 600lbs fruit to me...
What do all others think? Can that scales be trusted?
here is the link, also check out the next two entries...

Yea, Not knocking you one bit Doeski,Just the guy who weighed them, But them pumpkins do look a little small to be weighing that much, not just yours but all of them, what kind of scale was it.Just a guess but Im saying that the scale was off atleast 200b to 300lbs. If it wasnt Im sorry for being wrong.

60% heavy OTC is highly, highly, highly improbable. It *could* be possible but we'll never see it in our lifetime, or our kid's, or grandkid's, or great-grandkid's, or great-great-grandkid's..... The scale was way off, bet money on it.

I just saw the pics. No way all those pumpkins could've coincidentally weighed that heavy OTC. Scales...I agree with Martin, Kevin's is no way a 1049.

After staring at that picture for a while I got thinking about some photos I took at Topsfield last year.
The first here is the 1027 Hopkins woth Billy & Bart standing next to it. Both are about 6' tall.
Coincidnetally, the next is Kevin Companion's 1048.

I could not believe the weight myself, of course I did not argue!! LOL! Anyway here are some answers to questions asked in the previous posts.
The pumpkin is a (F) 655 Breznick X (M) 735 Pukos Measured 116-83-79 = 278 OTT The fair was the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex VT. Yup seems like that is a lot of weight for that size, I plan to take the pumpkin to a local business that has a well kept scale to see if that is indeed the weight. Lou the guy that took second said he thought his was 700lbs before it went on the scale, not sure if he had his weighed anywhere else before he came. His was 17 lbs heavier than mine. Yes Kevin’s pumpkin does look small in the picture, but I assure you it is not small. It was the most solid pumpkin I have ever seen; the skin feels just like cement, it was hard to believe it was a pumpkin! I will look into it guys and let you know what is up with the small OTT, and yes I will post a picture when I cut it open.
I will most definitely be sharing seeds, even if it is not 705 pounds it is a great looking pumpkin, I will be saving a clone off of this plant for next year.
The scale used, here is a picture on my Diary: http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=27035 Another picture of Kevin’s http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=27038
I just posted a few more pictures that may let you get a better idea of size.

Doeski, thanks for not taking it personal, your a good sport about it, and its great your going to get it weighed again, alot of us are really curious about it now.not trying to put your pumpkin down by no means, its a great looking pumpkin. If your pumpkin does go 705lbs your gonna have seeds of gold there and it will definatly be a start of something diffrent in the pumpkin world. Brooks

It was not the kind of digital scale you see at other weigh-offs. Officially calibrated? No offense taken here but I have to agree with Martin - a bit strange compared to other pics published here. However, congrats to you.

I don't think that it is taken as seriously at the Essex fair, someday it might, but for now it is just fun, and quite a sight to see for the attendees at the fair. Doeski

Taken seriously or not, it´s not fair to the growers attending the weigh-off. At least you can expect a working scale. Take Kevin Companion who is a well reputated grower, I don´t think he would like the idea his 1000+ pumpkin is actually far below this. If it would be in the statistic or genetic database somewhere, others had to rely on wrong information. Doesn´t sound like a good reputation for the AG hobby. Just my opinion.
