I'm first year grower (zone 8a), and have had a few pumpkins to quit growing b/c the vine either wilted or died so I picked them. I tried storing them in a cool dry place and they rotted.
I have 1 more left and the vine is wilting (I don't understand why, the plants receive adequate water supply), I don't want the same thing to happen. Do I just need to leave it on the vine until I am ready to use it?

Leave them on the vine as long as possible keeping them cool and dry.
