I was wondering what the normal practice is with field pumpkins. Do you leave them on the vine until Oct. or do cut them off as they ripen?
I had 2 howden pumpkins go bad over the last week. Both were completely orange by Aug. 21st. One was 30 lbs and 15 for the other. Both pumpkins had great skin. Nice and smooth no abrasions. They both just developed a soft spot that rotted through.
Thanks in advance, Paul

When did you plant them ? Normally to get carving pumpkins to sell in Oct. you want to plant them anywhere from June 5th-15th....................Paul

If they're starting to rot, I'd pick them and store them in a cool, dry place like in the garage, they should last.

I transplanted them on May 18. Is that a little early? When you said plant do you mean transplant or plant seed?
I guess I will keep an eye on the rest of them and put them in the garage if they are starting to look on the over-ripe side.
Thanks, Paul
