I got a recipe from a gardening book that claims to stop PM when applied once per week (2Tb Murphy's soap + 4Tb baking soda, mixed well into 1 gallon of hot water). I've tried this as well as carefully removing yellowing leaves that are probably already infected, sprayed the vines & undersides of leaves, and I am still losing leaves at the rate that I was before any treatment. Is there a commercial chemical or something that will knock this stuff out? What is a good way to ensure that PM doesn't get a foot hold next growing season?

Alternating fungicides and preventing it before it occurs. From what I have been told once it is there it is to late. We use a good systemic followed up by daconil alternating every two weeks.

Cut your watering...you have to let your leaves dry out.

I was at a grower's patch yesterday whose leaves still look pretty good. He uses copper sprays, but other fungicides work too, like Banner. You have to start spraying midsummer before it gets established. Prevention is the key.

My neighbour told me that extract from horse tail and nettle can be sprayed early in the season to make the plants more resistant against PM. We´ll see next year:)

I've done some more research and from what I can tell I think it might be downy mildew on my plants. I bought some daconil and put on them yesterday. I'm growing big max and hope to be able to get a jack-o-lantern in time for halloween.
