OK, my annual post to give out free seed to those who could use it. First Post is a bit of info on some specific 2004 and 2003 seed. Next post will be what I've grown for 2004 and info on the seed that grew them. It'll be awhile on several pumpkins as they're on display at my church, a school, or a Fall Harvest Festival, but all will be available by December.

2004 276# Little EST (1260 Weir x 580 Weir) A cold August pollination that grew low and wide. Grown in 150 sq ft. space. The plant was a very late start and the pumpkin was grown for the cross and not for competition. Thick walls, 8" at shoulders, 5" at blossom end, 4" at the pumpkin base. Seed count of 710.

2004 175# EST Little (572 Andrews x 1260 Weir)=(1260 x sibb X 1260)Grown in 80 sq ft. space, plant had less than 40 leaves total. Tall for it's size with 5 big ribs. Grown for the cross, not size. Thick walls although difficult to ascertain comparitive dimensions since the fruit was <200#. Seed count of 505.

2004 201# EST Little (307 Little x 572 Andrews) Cull off the plant that grew a 586# @ 12% heavy. Perfectly round, crossback to the 1260 Weir genetics. Progeny from the 307 Little in 2004 averaged 18% heavy OTC.

2004 408# EST Little (851 Handy x 730 Stellpflug) Strange side-of-the-fruit split from rapid growth took this one down in mid-July. White fruit, large side ribs. Interesting crossback to grandparents on both sides of the 851 cross. Poor seed count of <30 seed.

2004 435# EST Little (580 Weir x 773.6 Kuhn) 1260 Weir genetics, nice cross. Dark orange fruit, somewhat low and wide, very short & thick stem (typical 846 Calai), very slow grower. Grew a 300#+ (580 x self) on the same plant. Very thick walled pumpkin when cut open, 9"-7" throughout.

2003 273# EST Little (650 Lloyd x 659 McCallum)= 935 Lloyd genetics. Cross is similar to (935 Lloyd x self X 1092 Burke x self) 650# Lloyd = (935 Lloyd x 880 Lloyd)...880 is the same cross as the 935 Lloyd. White fruit, carbon copy appearance of the original 935.

2003 435# (Official) Little (659 McCallum x sibb)= (1092 Burke x self X sibb) More 935 Lloyd genetics. Tall, wide, white fruit, very solid.

2003 333# (Official) Little (414 Sharier x 350 Sadowski) 869.5 and 798.5 Calai genetics combined to produce a cross that is...a reverse cross, of 2 reverse crosses.

2003 305# EST Little (901 Hebb x 951 Castellucci) Tall, very round, very orange. Grown for the genetic cross only at a satellite patch. Grew a 400#+, and 500#+ in 2004 for first year growers.

2003 130# EST Little (503 Grunow x 731 Stucker) Grown for the color cross only at a satellite patch. Should produce very good color as both the 503 and 731 were bright orange.

2003 329# (Official) Little (940 Mombert '98 x 650 Lloyd) Basically the same cross as the Hampton seed that produced a 1013#. Beautiful dark orange, went light, long fruit with nice ribs. Grown at a satellite patch for the cross. Produced a 572# and a 400#+ fruit in 2004 for first year growers.

And some info on seed used for my 2004 crosses...

1260 Weir = (845 Bobier x 846 Calai) #1 seed all-time producing heavy OTC offspring @ 18% heavy on average

580 Weir = reverse cross of the 1260, same seed, same plants, also goes heavy over-the-chart

572 Andrews = (1260 x sibb) 16% heavy

773.8 Kuhn = (846 Calai x 1260 Weir) 9% heavy

977 Hester = (846 Calai x 898 Knauss) 9% heavy, 898 Knauss pollinator grew the 1104 Hester (21% heavy), which grew the 1420 LaRue '04

804 Plourde = (1260 Weir x self) 9% heavy

851 Handy = (545 Handy x 810 Handy) 24% heavy; the (851 x 730 Stellpflug) cross is a crossback to both maternal *and* paternal grandparents

730 Stellpflug = (887 Orr x 963 Zehr) #4 seed all-time producing heavy OTC offspring @ 14.50% heavy on average

797 Handy = (730 Stellpflug x 846 Calai) 6% heavy, the (797 x 492) cross is interesting in that the same 730 Stellpflug plant that grew the 797, was also the same plant that pollinated the 492 Handy....this creates a cross with 3 *true* grandparents

492 Handy = (664 Eaton x 730 Stellpflug) same cross as the 545 Handy

547 Armstrong = (887 Orr x 935 Lloyd) 12.50% heavy, the 547 x 730 x 547 crosses share the same maternal 887 Orr genetics

940 Mombert 2000 = (567.5 Mombert x 801.5 Stelts) proven color producer

307 Little = (709.5 McCallum x 951 Castellucci) 21% heavy; the 709.5 x 951 share the same maternal 1260 Weir genetics; the 709.5 and 951 were 34% and 20% heavy respectively; known 307 progeny are averaging 18% heavy OTC

208 Little = (1/4 Big Max & 3/4 AG) genetics, outstanding color, produced a 500#+ pumpkin in 2004; 208 x 940 cross is a continuation of color lineage.

675 Hester * = (895.5 Hester* x sibb) squash, 895.5* genetics go heavy on average 6%

My address is....
Kyle Little
940 Rainbow Rd.
Mountain City, TN 37683

Send me a SASBE (self-addressed, pre-stamped, bubble envelope) The bubble should be #0 (6" x 9") or smaller, pre-stamped with 60-80 cents of postage if you live in the states, and sent in a slightly larger envelope. If you live out of country, add $2 American for postage. Please don't send me foreign currency, I can't do anything with it.
PLEASE put a note saying "Hello, I'm _____" and tell me what seed you'd like. Don't say all of them, they won't fit in the bubble. If you can't at least put a little note in with the bubble, it may come back to you, it may not. It's a courtesy thing.
If you don't attach postage to the bubble, or add American funds, you definitely won't get it back...I'm not going to cover the postage cost as my own seed swaps with other growers cost me enough as it is. (it happens, believe me...you'd be surprised at what some folks expect)
Thanks and good luck to all next year.
Kyle

Southern you are very generous. My seeds from last years pumpkin must have been premature because I couldn't get them to germinate and now I am out of seeds. I will send a bubble pack. Thank you.
