Growers: Please welcome Joe Scherber to the 2005 GPC Steering Committee. Joe is a member of the 1000 pound club and lives in the Denver Colorado area. Joe will give us some coverage in the midwest.He has had the big one at Anamosa, Iowa 8 years running. Joe is always after that personnal best.
At our meeting last Tuesday, officers were selected. Dave Stelts President,Pete Glasier Vice President,Dave McCallum Secretary, Dick Wallace Treasurer and Joe Scherber Director at Large.

maybe the growers should have input into the selections, seems like an old boys club.....who decides who becomes a director...I have alot of respect for you Dave, but this whole set-up seems one sided.....nice to see other growers comments on this...

I believe the current bylaws of the GPC require that a retiring member choose their own successor. The only way to change that is to amend the bylaws.

Wayne: It means the GPC is undergoing a total restructuring to the benefit of all growers. The end result will be a more open and responsive GPC. It is better that a few work on proposals and get a feeling for them from the masses. There never has been an old boys club but there has been leadership. I have only been a member for one year and don't intend to make a career out of it. Dave

growers that belong to a club or group that weighs off at a gpc santioned site will have a channel for there thoughts and suggestions----- their club/group and site representatives

the gpc is not a club where every grower pays dues and gets to vote on election of officers, etc
this type of activity occurs at your club/group level

the gpc is a organization that coordinates official weigh off sites all over the world, collects and distributes results tabulations,charges a site fees that gets broken down and returned via a year end awards program, over sees all weighoff sites, their site representative,site coordinator and group/club rep to insure rules are being followed

we solicit and approve new weigh off sites,and last but not least work with the sites and clubs and/or groups to maintain a good working relationship and promote the hobby of growing and showing atlantic giant pumpkins

the masses as you asked about get a say through the above mentioned site and club officials
