The constitution reads: Article IV Officers - " This election process will begin on the 1st day of November and will be completed by the 31st day of December. The new officer will take office on the 1st day of January"

Dave:
Are you saying that there will be an election this year and that the officers of the GPC will be chosen at that time and that the Steering Committee that has for years been running the GPC will be replaced by those elected individuals? I think that would quell a lot of concerns and complaints. I also think that for the most part those now on the Steering Committee would win positions if they chose to run. Being elected by the members would make the officers of the GPC legitimate in the eyes of all. Will there be an election this fall?

I believe so but I will clarify that with the committee at our meeting on Monday.

Dave: Your GPC Steering Committee meeting was on Monday and no post from you as yet. This makes me believe that there will be no election in the near future of GPC officers. This means to me that the officers of the GPC have decided not to have an election and therefore will be self appointed and thus not representative of the members. This is too bad because an election would have given the officers some degree of credibilty. Also it is too bad because it directly conflicts with the new bylaws just presented as having been approved. There is nothing in the bylaws about the Steering Committee appointing themselves as the officers of the organization. What is in there is that the officers will be elected by the membership. What should have happened, in my opinion, is that the Steering Committee would develop the bylaws and then move forward with an election of officers this Fall, as stated in the bylaws, to take office this next year. The Steering Committee would then steer the GPC through the election and then the elected officers would take over the new GPC. Members of the Steering Committee could have run for office and probably get elected as they are well recognized and doing okay to this point. It appears that someone feels some ownership of the group when in reality the members own the group. Too bad. An opportunity may have been wasted. Just one opinion. Tell me I am wrong.

It seems to me that since the GPC isn't a club then it has no members. I could be wrong, but if the charter were amended to allow members to vote, then there would first need to be members?

to wild willie the gpc is not, i repeat not, a giant pumpkin growing club
i dont know what your motivation for hounding dave is, but you need to remember we are people that were selected by previous steering committe members to fill there spots
i dont think hugh or tim picked there replacements out of a hat, im sure they thought they were leaving there areas of responsibility in good hands
we have set up a very fair and impartial set of bylaws, our rule changes that will be announced at the canadian seminar will be very well received also, im sure of this
for the five of us to work on these issues and get the gpc back into a status of importance we will need at least one season
i have no problem stepping aside after one season if thats what the site sponsor, site coordinator and group/club representatives under my area of the country want
thats why each gpc chartered site and group/club have a say in elections and also can at anytime bring there complaints to the gpc ------ these people will do the communicating and voting on any issues that come up
you on the other hand can bring your beefs to the above people
this will be my last and final word regarding this subject
thank you dick wallace

To Wild Willie and the rest of you as well:
Read the bylaws. They outline exactly how it will work. The GPC will have members, anyone who enters a pumpkin or a squash at any GPC site, and these members by way of their club representatives and site coordinators along with the site representatives will nominate and elect the members of the GPC Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will then determine who will be President etc.of the GPC. The Steering Committee worked hard to develop these bylaws. If you have a complaint you should read them first. Then you can complain and if enough people complain the bylaws will ultimately be amended. That is how it works. Rome was not built in a day. Not everyone will be happy. Life goes on.
