As the heart of the GPC weigh-off season is fast aproaching I was wondering how many growers are planning on participating in the first GPC grower of the year competition?
What sites are you planning on attending?
How many total pounds will it take?
Who will win it?

To add more incentive we have decided to add a very nice fall/spring light weight jacket, complete with your name and all fruit entered with total weight (if it doesn't look to buisy)with grower of the year, all sewn on. This coat may become as coveted as the orange jacket, we will make sure it will be nice enough to want to wear at any spring function or fall weigh-off.

I am planning on attending Yankee Lake, OH, Copperstown, NY, Canfield OH, Pumpkinville NY.
I figure the winner will need to average about 1,300#'s
Who will win it...now that is tough so many good growers...?Wallace?Werner?Checkon?Rose?LaRue?Eaton?...to tough for me to call and a whole lot more I didn't even mention. All I can say is it won't be me but I will give it all I have.

who ever wins this award will definately be one proud son or gal) of a gun.

i believe the " grower of the year award " is something very special. it will grow in significance over time.

in my opinion just as noteworthy as a world champion award.
possibly even a bit more because the grower had to grow not one but three very large fruit.

kudos to the gpc for the forward thinking approach

It was huge & the most beautiful orange pumpkin you've ever seen. Colour is as good as the 1233 Riess was. Results will be posted soon.

Its hard to believe what I saw yesterday at Cornerstone. There truly must be many more fruit over 1,000 in Ontario as most growers have left thier best prospects on the vine for Port Elgin and the latter weigh-off sites.

I believe my best estimate would be to say that the total of three fruit for the top grower of the year will be nearly 3600 pounds.

Phil, I hope to have the Cornerstone results posted by early this afternoon. I left the file at the office after the celebration party. I will be heading out to the yard at noon, all I need to do is punch in the final numbers

Todd's fruit certainly was the best fruit I have ever seen. Anybody wanna sell me a 670 Daigle?

Darrell Leonard and Todd will be two of the top contenders. Our own Huronia Nurseries man is sitting on some big ones yet.......We have three more sites in Ontario yet to weigh in and there is plenty of opportunity here in Canada......
