My first experience with Joe was several years ago when we first traded seeds in 2004. I was really impressed with the full colour page he produced for his pictures of that years fruit. He always seamed to wear some funny looking costume or hat in those years. His letters were always the best a I received from any grower.

I lucky enough to have him send me a 1225 that year which I planted in the spring of 2005. I lost that fruit like so many in my patches the last few years at 726 pounds in late August.

I had the tremendous pleasure this past spring of 2008 to have Joe & Sue visit us at our home during the GVGO seminar for a couple of days. I can't tell enough what wonderful couple these two folks are.

I took Joe back to my patch one of those mornings and he quickly scolded me about all of the organic matter I had laid strewn about my patches. I complained about running out of time and being disappointed about more splitters the past fall. We chatted about BES and he suggested I try adding sand to loosen up the soil. Well I didn't get around to it in spring but last fall I took his advice and went to town. My new patch reno should make a real good home for a nice fat 1689 seed that he hand picked for me.

Check out the genetics of Joe's 1237 (1631 McKie x 1689 Jutras). That is a sick cross. The names on that seed pretty much guarantee it will be grown. LOL

This seed lot will probably sell for $500 at auction next year.
