OK...new silly kinda anal picture request.

I'm sure many folks remember the mad dash to get me your weigh-off pictures in time for the 2009 Niagara presentation (Thank you). While cataloging all these images I quickly realized we will NEVER be able to recall all of the entrants by name unless the site coordinator had the fruit, grower & results board all photographed on the scale (as we all should). Some sites are very good at doing this. Most aren't.

As GPC weigh-offs we're all *REQUIRED* to take clear high-res digital pictures in case of a color or soundness issue.

Here is my latest request (suggestion) that will help everyone in your club, newsletter chair, members, & yes, the GPC tremendously.

When downloading images from a camera all computer programs randomly assign each image a more or less random numeric sequence that will make no sense to anyone. If the person downloading CHOOSES to change the names they can.

Soooo I'm asking all your weighoff shutterbugs to get with the pumpkin vernacular.

Cameras might call your images "DSC00001, etc. This doesn't archive well.

PLEASE RENAME the images: "FRE #1 1689 Jutras '07"

Now the image will aways be tagged "Frerich's 1st place 1689 Jutras 2007" no matter who opens the CD or email.

So "Weigh-off name, Place in show, Fruit name".
The smallest weighoffs should tag the top three. Mid sized weighoffs should tag at least the top five. Large weighoffs should tag the top ten, but monster shows might tag all of the entries if the picture person will rise up to the task.

NOT doing this will hardly be considered a breach of contract but naming every fruit's image properly right after the weighoff helps insure the grower will always get proper credit for their accomplishment. Wait until March & there is no way to guarantee your weighoff's entrants will get proper credit for their hard work.

Its a lot of work on a crazy day but every site owes it to our patrons to make an effort to get the record straight.

Thanks in advance & best pumpkin wishes!

Nothing wrong at all. However if folks like to see the fruit of their labor presented at the annual Niagara conference with all due credit takes a montain of work. HOURS of work to produce a 30 minute presentation.

GPC weighoffs handled over 1400 pumpkins last year.

This year we expect to see over 2000 pumpkins.

If another volunteer offers to field all the images & produce the end of season summary I'd love to see it.

It's not about me or the GPC at all. This is for the GROWERS.

Thanks!
