Time for the big week end of weigh-offs so let the big dogs eat!!!!

Before you head out don't forget to bring your pumpkins vital statistics you have kept all year. The site data entry person needs this to complete your fruit's information into the BP spread sheet so all can see. Not only do you need female, male, feet on vine, etc... please bring your final OTT measurements.

Most sites have a measuring crew but sometimes they can not get to all entries. Please put your final OTT on your registration paper with the rest of your vital info so it will get entered even if the measuring crew can not get to your fruit.

Alright Dave, I appologize for really being out of the loop on some of this info.

I know WE as event organizers can access the information like feet on vine, date set out...etc. But how do those that aren't entering on the spread sheet access that information? I can't figure it out...I know I know I'm sorry.

I'm posting here because there is no way I'm the only one in the dark here :(

It should be available this winter. We're working on a few things, and there is a lot of data cleanup to do before we can get it presentable, but it will be available.

Ken will have that info out for all to see this fall after the weigh-offs. We understand it has been a long time coming but good things come to those with patience and all the expanded info will be out from the first spread sheet to present.

Dave,

If your going to include the inherently variable and unreliable field tapping data from the growers, will there be some sort of designation for this data such as the UOW for fruit that are weighed with other things on the scale at the time of weighing?

Bart, inherently variable is good term...We are trying to get all sites to have measurement teams. Although growers can pre enter the OTT measurements they can also be revise by the sites data entry person.

Bart,
I realize there are inconsistencies with growers measurements but this will have a 2 fold effect.

1) Not every site can get official 3 way measurements on all fruit. If a grower takes the time to bring their 3 way measurement to the site and the measurement team does not get to measure their fruit they will have an OTT to enter on the spread sheet. Each site should make an attempt to get all fruit officially measured and only use the growers numbers as a backup.

2) When you do get an official 3 way on a fruit and the growers numbers are far off the official measurements ask the grower how they got their numbers. Something can be learned by paying attention to this and we can get more growers on the same page if we take a little extra time and ask questions.

I hope this helps,
Dave

1) “Each site should make an attempt to get all fruit officially measured and only use the growers numbers as a backup.” I agree . Do these ‘backup numbers’ need a designation as we do for uow fruit?

2) Again we agree. Education and standard procedures can only help to improve the quality of the data. Erroneous data degrades the value of the pool and the conclusions we try to draw from it.

Dave,
are you going to answer the question?
