Not that I'm partial to that seed at all or anything like that..:)

you had another rookie at Canfield - Eric presto - 1444.5

I heard Ruben Frias (1467.5) is new also.

In NY, Todd Brownell - 1052.5

KY - Tim Pennington - 1238

I'm sure there's more out there.

Dan,
Maybe the impressive results of past rookies, helped the more recent rookies dream big ;-)

The guys & gals from MN & WI have had a strangle hold on the rookie award for the past 4 years. If you look at the results from that area's weigh-offs you can see the massive increase they have had from such great success of bringing new growers along. My hat is off to you and keep up the awesome work!!!!

Growing in the humidity and heat of the south has to count for something doesent it? LOL
I'm biased anyway, and even being mentioned for it to me counts for more than you think. Thanks John.

Tim pennington from Ky grew the 1238 and a 1094.5 in Kentucky. Thats pretty impressive for a first year grower.

Our weather and heat is a KILLER. Mr. Boostbusa is my pick...Mr. Pennington had a veteran grower helping him alone the way. I might add that he helped me to, however it's different when someone can help you on a day to day basis, in fact IT'S HUGH. He helped me on a weekly basis if I needed him. Rick didn't have that advantage, Im sure he spoke on the phone with people like me but was in the patch by him self. Great job both of you, both have a bright future. Hey and both are southerns growers

Tim worked in the patch daily..sctrooper you dont have the right to take away anyones sweat equity. My vote is for Tim, he worked hard.

huh, croley what are you talking about...im kinda confused....How did Tim grow his hugh pumpkins if he wasn't in the patch everyday, of course he was. I merly stated Rick was ALONE in his garden, which most of us are down here. No were in my post did I take anything away from Tim, he's a great grower and a quick learner as well. Let't stop taken things out of context. Both would be great winners.

Trooper, you said he had help from a veteran grower, like this unnamed veteran grower actually worked in the patch..get real.

Croley, Stop acting like a idot. I wonder if I am talking to a 10 year old. YES, YES, YES someone did help him in his patch LOOK AT HIS DIARY....READ HIS DIARY. Tim speaks frankly about the help he recieved. GO READ TIM'S DIARY. And please drop it, your trying to make something out of nothing.

Congratulations to all the rookie growers. We all had a new personial best. Wow!! What a year I had and grew some slugers. Thanks everyone for mentioning my name as rookie of the year but that was deceided on the scales. Thanks to the Van Hook boys for there help. Just look at all the new friends I got to meet because of a pumpkin.
God Bless

most rookie and/or new growers do not taste this kind of success without help from somewhere. ya dont just roll outta bed and grow a huge pumpkin.
if it was that easy every new grower would go over 1,000 pounds.

nothing wrong with getting help and/or advise either. after all, is that not what we do here on bp.c as well. help one another? where would any of us be without help at one time or another?

regardless, even if no one helped you ? or someone helped you ? or many helped you?, the rookie still had to grow the darn thing.

same goes for fathers and sons, husbands and wife, mothers and daughters ,etc. as long as you put the time into the plant and pumpkins it matters little who was standing beside you.

some great first year weights. my congrats to all of you new growers.

I agree Croley, Pap as usual hits the nail on the head. While some have an experienced grower in the patch to help and give advice, we all use BP, Don's books, or local growers get some help. Nobody except me and family has ever been in my patch but if it wasent for this site or books I wouldnt even be growing. While I had a great season growing 1 of the 3 pumpkins over a grand ever grown in NC and raising the record, its the scale that tells the truth. As most everyone knows if you grow in the South you are at a disadvantage to the growers farther north so having anyone from the south in contention is a great accomplishment of itself. I grew a PB for me so I am happy with my season. Tim and any other Rookie growers that went 1000+ I know first hand you worked your A$$ off to get it so good job. But also remember even though you had a great season dont get to cocky it may well be the largest you ever get, pumpkins like alot of other things can bite you in the six if you think you have it all figured out. Congrats to all and hope a new PB is in everyones patch next season. See you on the scales.
