I hope every one is getting ready to put their PB on the scale and most importantly has some fun doing it.
The bulk of the GPC weigh-offs will be starting this week end World wide. I like to remind everyone as to some of the things that you are entitled to and things you should have with you on weigh-off day.
Please preregister on this site for the weigh-off(s) you will be attending it only takes a minute and it saves the data entry person at the site a whole lot of typing. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=132 Then click on - Register on-line for a GPC weigh-off.
As a bonus I will be giving away a 1,421.5 Stelts '09 & 1,662.5 Stelts '09 seeds to 2 lucky growers who preregister and will be randomly drawn by Ken D. You will have an entry (pumpkin, squash, watermelon, long gourd, field pumpkin, & tomato) for every entry at every site you preregister for. The more you enter the more chances you have but make sure they are actual entries verified by official weight &/or measurement at sanctioned GPC sites. If you know of someone that does not have a computer please register them and this will count as well.
For those who do not preregister we will put those names in a drawing for every site and the winner will be doing data entry for that site in 2011.

After you preregister you can "print screen" and take that with you to the event. On this paper please write down your final OTT measurement on the paper. The data entry person will need this to finish your entry if your pumpkin does not get a final OTT at the site.
Doing this does not exempt you from filling out registration forms at the site it is just an aid to help you bring the proper information to the site. If a site does not ask you for the information on their registration sheet please add this information to their sheet or attach your sheet to theirs if possible.
Big thing here is we want as much information as possible on all pumpkins to better our data base for the future. If you see a big discrepancy with your final OTT measurement and the sites OTT measurement ask the growers measuring to show you how they got their OTT.
If all of the information you bring is not getting put on the BP spread sheet ask the site representatives to have it added and if that does not work contact your regional GPC committee member.

It is your responsibility to know what the current rules are and what the criteria is for GPC cash and prizes. If you have a question on and rule or prize the time to ask is before attending a GPC sanctioned event. When the results are final at the completion of a sites weigh-off the judges decision at that site is final.
The GPC resource page is the place for all this information. Every site is required to have a copy of rules and prize structure at the registration table for all participating growers to view.

The GPC executive committee contact information is on this site page as well and if an issue can not be settled at a site please feel free to contact us.

On behalf of the entire Executive Committee we would like to wish all growers a safe and HEAVY fall weigh-off season. The GPC prides itself on the safety of it's sites and participating growers. Please remember it takes all of us working together to ensure the safety of all participants and attendees. Keep an extra eye out for the young and elderly as they can lose track of their surroundings from time to time (I know this from experience).
Thank you for supporting the GPC, Dave

If you are a site and having issues with your prize package or BP weigh-off day spread sheet please contact me or Andy.
We have tracking numbers for the prize packages and your weigh-off day spread sheet does not go out till the Thursday before your event.

As one of the reps for our new weighoff in eastern PA I encourage all to pre-register.
Not sure but while registering my 3 fruit I may have inadvertantly stumbled on a possible problem with the raffle though. I filled in all of the info for my first pumpkin and clicked the button, but instead of receiving a confirmation message the screen simply blinked. I thought maybe I didn't hit the button square so I clicked it again. Same thing. I am guessing that the info went through twice. Which could mean that I ended up with two identical raffle entries which could both be backed up with official weight from a GPC weighoff. What if a grower clicks the button 10 times? 10 entries?
Anyhow thanks for all that you do Dave we all appreciate it. Jim Gerhardt

Dave I had the same issue as Jim when Pre-registering. Can a confirmation page be added to the process or better yet how about an email with the confirmation page and the form to take to the weigh off.

Jim & Mom1 don't worry we will only take the first entry for each site so if multiples come up we will handle it (or should I say Ken LOL)
If there is a problem with the preregister online I am sure Ken will have an answer.
I know I will be doing our entries tonight (I know I don't want to be on my bad list LOL) and see how it works for us.

Weighing every pumpkin takes a long tine for the smalles sites, I think that rule should be looked at to exclude the smaller pumpkins that are out of the ribbons, like 5 through 8 or 9 hundred pounders. Just my 2 cents. BR

We had that issue last year, preregisters didn't seem to get their data to 'take' and our site did not receive any pre-register data. Hope it's fixed this year :)
