I am wondering why the GPC would bring a speaker to the international convention in Niagara Falls Canada, to promote a product that they will not ship to Canada??

Specifically Actinovate and Actino-Iron.

These products are not available to us, so why have did you have Matt promoting them??

The GPC is committed to education and development of the hobby and promoting products that work well on our giant vegetables. Actinovate is a well proven product that is available everywhere in the world including Ontario. The only difference is that in Ontario it requires a pesticide license to purchase. I believe that Actinovate is available in most other provinces without a license.

It is not the job of the GPC to sort out licensing or regulatory issues. Just to present the facts. This is also the case with RTI's products which also are not licensed as of yet for use in Canada.

If you have concerns with the licensing issue, I suggest you contact your MPP.

John, you know as well as I that this product is not available for the home gardener to use, because the home gardener cannot obtain a pesticide license. I am not saying it is the job of the GPC to sort out licensing and regulatory issues, I am asking why the GPC would promote a product in Ontario that is not available to most Ontario growers.

I do not have a concern with the licensing issues, I have no issue with our province putting the health of people and the environment high on it's list of priorities.

I do think it is the GPC's responsibility to look into what the speakers are selling and if it is available for everyone to use.

There are also restriction in some US states on some products. Many of the insecticide and fungicide products are restricted to license only in the US and many US gardeners face the same difficulty obtaining products as we do.

This is an International Giant Pumpkin seminar. Not an Ontario seminar. Participants from Ontario must glean knowledge that they can and use what they can. The GPC is not going to gear its speakers to available in Ontario products only.

Thanks Eddy I will check them out when I get home, more specifically I was looking for the Actino-Iron product, I will see if they have it or will ship it to Ontario. These are bio-fungicide products that I think should be available to us...I thought this was the type of growing we are supposwd to be moving towards. That is an issue with out government for sure.

As far as John's reply on behalf of the GPC, I guess what I would like to see as guest speakers are people who can teach us something without having a vested interest in their bottom line. I probably learned the most for Joe's speech, he may have mentioned some products but he had no vested interest in those companies that I am aware of. If you do decide to have a spokesman from a particular company present, then it would be nice to have the product they speak about be available worldwide.

Bryan, I understand where your coming from. It would be nice to have everything available to everyone but as John mentioned, each provincial, state or even municipal government has its own set of rules.

There are a couple great resourse out there for pumpkin growers to find products. One of them being Extreme Pumpkin Store, I've used Tom to track me down products. He deals with many more suppliers than you or I.
