This winter the GPC Executive Committee made a commitment to the squash growers. First we started the "feature fruit/veggy" category which the overall winner in the GPC for that category will earn an additional $1,000. As you might have guessed this years category is SQUASH!!!

What this means in $$$ to you:
When the Ice Man (he is going to be busy this summer) takes his 1,346# World Record squash to Smokey Lake he will make this in addition to his earnings at the site from the GPC:
$500 Biggest squash overall in the GPC
$1,000 World Record bonus (current world record 1,236#'s)
$1,000 Feature fruit/veggy bonus
$2,500 Total

But the fun doesn't stop there we changed up the qualifying categories for the Master Gardner award. We split pumpkin & squash to make 6 categories instead of 5 making qualifying entries of at least 5 of 6 from the recognized categories - pumpkin, squash, watermelon, long gourd, tomato, & field pumpkin. We also changed the scoring for the Master Gardner so take some time & review all that the GPC improved over the winter on our resource page.

We are very excited about our commitment to squash & know all the growers will respond & make it a record breaking year for the "Year of the Squash"

Thank you for supporting the GPC

The Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition AUSTRALIA is 2 weeks away but we are planning for 2011/2012 season. There are little or no Giant Squash growers in Australia due to the fact that we have NO SEED. If any GPC growers can help us get started this would be a bonus.
PLEASE CONTACT kpmyers8@bigpond.com if you can support giant squash growing in Australia

Just enter as you normally would. as long as they are entered into the BP database by the site, We will take care of the number crunching.
